CHOOSING A WEBSITE NAME AND BOOKING IT
(written by Anything Creative)
Choosing a name for your website can sometimes be daunting, but if you keep these simple rules in mind the process will be an easy one.
- Choose a name that matches your business name. Sounds simple enough, but what if the name has already been taken. Then choose something that clients will associate with your business names. For example, if you have a business that sells shoes and the business name is called John Smith, but the website name www.johnsmith.co.za is already taken – try www.johnsmithshoes.co.za or www.js.co.za . The likely hood that both will be taken is slim.
- Having said the above though, ensure that your website name is not too long. So if for example John Smith sold only leather shoes, don’t register the name www.johnsmithleathershoes.co.za . This calls for customers to make spelling mistakes. Keep it as generic as possible.
- If you find that the ‘co.za’ domain of your business name has already been registered and you would really like your website named after your business, think globally. Register a ‘.com’ or ‘.net’. These are slightly more expensive to register, but will work well, especially if you do trade internationally.
- Once you’ve chosen your name, you will need to book and host your website. Anything Creative can assist you with both the booking and hosting of your website.
